Global Health Volunteer

As part of our Global Health Volunteer Program (GHVP), you can travel to any of our project sites around the world! We welcome volunteers from all walks of life. No major or career path is necessary to make a difference, just the willingness to give back to a community in need. Individual volunteers as well as groups are welcome to travel at any time and for any length of time. We maintain staffing at each site devoted to leading volunteer activities, so you work side-by-side with staff members and medical professionals who are on the front lines of providing healthcare to communities in need. All FIMRC programs are structured to ensure volunteers contribute in meaningful, sustainable ways and are an integral component of our goal to bring long-term change to underserved communities around the globe.

Ophthalmologist

Duties and Responsibilities:

While ophthalmologists can be thought of generically as 'eye doctors' and perform some of the same duties as optometrists, they differ in that ophthalmologist perform eye surgery and treat eye diseases. Ophthalmologists also examine eyes and prescribe contact lenses and glasses.

Ophthalmologist Degrees and Education Requirements. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who treat diseases of the eyes. In order to become an ophthalmologist, students typically complete a bachelor's program, a 4-year Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program and a 3-year ophthalmology residency in a hospital.

Demand or Need for this profession:

Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 14 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The growing and aging population is expected to drive overall growth in the demand for physician services as consumers continue to seek high levels of care that uses the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies.

Operating Room Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

Part of their job is to put the gowns and gloves on the surgeon and surgical assistants. Scrub surgical technologists set up a sterile operating room environment and are responsible for maintaining that field. Their chief job is to make sure the patient has the best possible care throughout the surgery.

Employment of surgical technologists is projected to grow 15 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Advances in medical technology have made surgery safer, and more operations are being done to treat a variety of illnesses and injuries.

I think that we need to need to stop lying about things we should just say the truth. We need to be CTR people. We should love each other and not hurt each other like at all.
